I enjoy my job and when I wanted more time for my family, I realised working for myself could be the best of both worlds.

So, after leading consulting teams at Afry, Enviros and Utilyx, I went independent in 2015.

I was quietly confident I had the drive, network and consulting expertise to make freelancing work. And it did!

Caroline provided us with a bespoke solution to our complex tenant billing. She listened to all requirements and was able to make improvements to the scope based on her wealth of knowledge in the sector. In addition she provided independent advice on energy and carbon projects and contact with many useful connections. Caroline’s assistance has meant we can now rely on the data and use it in a way that was not possible before.

I love the variety – learning what makes different businesses tick, keeping current in a sector that’s changing quickly.

I’m now a freelance energy and carbon consultant based in west London.

Luckily working remotely doesn’t mean I work alone – I still get a real buzz from shared success and take geeky delight in digital tools that make teams work.

I’ve also found some brilliant moral support in online freelancer networks, like DIFTK.

Away from my desk, I’m happiest walking along the river, soaking up the view. And that’s why I work in energy and carbon – because the job I enjoy has a positive impact on the environment.
